Fall in Love with Facial Flooding By Joanne Taylor, writer, makeup artist, skincare consultant

Your skin is thirsty! Quench its thirst with facial flooding, a simple treatment which gives your skin a glass-like, healthy, plump, and radiant glow. Your skin will love the wet sensation of flooding, and you will love the outstanding results.

LET’S DIVE IN The skincare technique of facial flooding is achieved by layering multiple lightweight, hydrating products on top of one another without waiting for each layer to fully dry. It is all about hydration, and easily adjustable for all skin types.

Depending on your product selection, there are three to five layers in the flooding technique including a hydration serum, a treatment serum, a moisturizer to lock in your skin’s moisture, a sealing mist, and SPF as a final protective layer.

The mists we are loving at Glow Spa is Dermalogica's Antioxidant Hydramist and Eminence organic Birchwater essence for ultimate skin quenching hydration promoting your best glowing skin.

KEEP IT SIMPLE After gently cleansing, leave your skin moist to start facial flooding. Damp skin absorbs product easily, which is exactly what this special treatment for your skin is all about. You want your surface skin wet, but not dripping. Press a wet cloth to your face with room temperature, or slightly warm water.

Start by applying layer one which is always the lightest serum. Spread over your face avoiding your eyes, and lips, before moving on to the next serum. This one can be a treatment for anti-aging, a vitamin C serum for boosting radiance, or an active Hyaluronic Acid to target fine lines.

You can opt to layer over your moisturizer to restore your skin barrier and by softening skin, by spraying a collagen or hydrating mist before lastly applying SPF for skin protection.

HYDRATION, HYDRATION, HYDRATION Neck, and decollate will enjoy skin flooding but two layers are enough in this fragile and delicate area. Apply your moisturizer first and finish off with a spray for an extra layer of hydration. SPF will also help protect against the sun, and environmental elements often exposed to.

Body flooding can be achieved after bathing with your regular oil or lotion., and adding a misting product to seal in the hydration. A spray also helps reach hard to reach areas like the tops of your feet, back, and back of legs.

Lips and eyes should be avoided when skin flooding, however you can apply your regular skincare products separately.

WET IS WONDERFUL Be sure to boost your hydration inside out by increasing your daily water intake to help flush your system on a regular basis. Add a splash of Ribena, a globally used blackcurrant cordial, for added antioxidant benefits.

With such glowing results it is tempting to do skin flooding frequently, however you can risk clogging skin’s pores particularly with acne prone skin. As a result, limit flooding to once a week for oily skin, or three times a week for dry, or mature skin.

Be strategic with your application of product and avoid using excessive amounts. If you’re unsure, reread the instructions which come with each product about whether to use a pea-sized amount, or more. If your skin feels overly sticky, or tacky to the touch you may be using too much – remember your skin can only absorb so much product.
